Happy Sunday friends! I hope you’re having a great Memorial Day weekend so far! Today I’m sharing episode 2 of our home renovation series. If you missed episode one all about the living room and hallway renovations, check that one out first. This post is all about our dining room. The video is a quick one because it was probably the easiest room for Conor to do and I didn’t film a ton during the process.
When we moved in back in 2015, one of the walls was a deep wine/burgundy color and the flooring was a linoleum tile that no matter what never looked clean. It was an off-white that was dingy and gross looking. The trim around the frame of the sliding porch doors was the original with the house and the baseboard trim was similar to that in the living room, where it was in pieces and was actually door trim and not baseboard trim. The light fixture when we moved in was a doozie haha! It was a black and gold chrome fan with an attached clear plastic ball chandelier (see photos below). It was awful!! Definitely one of the first things to go in that room.
We painted the burgundy wall about 1 year in to living in the new house and updated the fan/chandelier to something temporary (shown below. Last year is when we finally removed the old floor. We did the same LVP (Luxury Vinyl Plank) in Walton Oak as we did in the living room and hallway. The baseboard trim was all replaced with the PVC trim, and we also did PVC trim around the sliding glass porch doors. We wanted to go with a more modern feel, but decided to stick to a little more colonial so it matched the rest of the house. If you watch the video below, we actually found a surprise under the dining room floor near the sliding glass door.
Once the floors were done, we also changed out the dining room chandelier to something that fit the space much better.
One thing I forgot to note in the last post was the floor squeaking. Conor put over 2000+ screws into the floor of our main level while replacing flooring to correct the squeaks. Older houses…am I right?! (palm, face)
Below is the after with the new flooring, trim and chandelier. I went back and forth on replacing the curtains on the porch door with some navy ones but couldn’t find the right ones, so I stuck with the taupe/neutral ones for now. It looks and feels so much better in this room! I can’t even describe how happy I am with how it all turned out!
