Hi everyone! It’s been a struggle to get this post up because I am STILL sick! :/ Butt.. I think I am now on the upswing and I am finally able to share our anniversary weekend getaway with you all! Two weekends ago, Conor and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary with a weekend getaway in Milwaukee! While we were on our honeymoon last October, we vowed to take at least one vacation a year going forward (since it had been 5+ years without a vacation before our honeymoon). This weekend getaway is one of two trips we are taking this year, even though we didn’t have to go far for this one! After doing some research and reaching out to friends who live in the Milwaukee area, we decided to stay in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward at the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel and it was the best weekend!
Kimpton Journeyman Hotel
The Kimpton Journeyman hotel is located in the perfect spot in the Third Ward, walking distance to so many cute cafe’s, restaurants and shops! They are a boutique style hotel that is just stunning inside! It has a rooftop bar called The Outsider and an adorable restaurant on the first floor called Tre Rivali.
The King Spa
We stayed in the King Spa room, which was absolutely gorgeous! The furniture, along with all the little trinkets throughout the room were perfect! The hotel left us a cute card, along with some bottled water, wine and chocolate to wish us a Happy Anniversary!

I think the best part of the room however, was the oversized soaking tub! The bathroom in this room is absolutely stunning! From the subway tile to the mosaic floor tile to the gold hardware, the bathroom was a dream!! I love the bathtub/shower combo!
Each room also comes with complimentary robes, slippers, and a yoga mat to use while staying!
Our Weekend
Friday Night Bite
We arrived in Milwaukee late Friday night and after checking into the Journeyman, we were way past due for some food so we decided to wander around near the hotel and find somewhere for a quick bite. We ended up at Smoke Shack, which was recommended to us as well! Conor got the mac and cheese with spare ribs on top and a side of hush puppies. I got the Cobb salad with pulled chicken! They have some yummy food options and a great beer selection.
Saturday – Anniversary Day
We woke up refreshed on our one year anniversary & ordered some room service! The service as well as the food was so good! Conor got the Belgium waffle and I got a side of eggs, bacon and avocado with an almond milk latte.
After breakfast we got ready and headed out for a walk. Since Conor had a sprained ankle, we decided to walk as much as we could before his ankle got sore again. The weather was absolutely perfect, a bit warm but it was beautiful! We walked along the lake front and then stopped at the Milwaukee Public Market for a quick bite. This was our first time at the Market and it was such a cool place!
After the market, we went back to the hotel to change for dinner. We had our anniversary dinner at Tre Rivali, the restaurant on the first floor of the Journeyman. We were greeted with champagne and the service overall was excellent. Conor and I shared the peach and brie pizza, which was their special for the night, along with the kale salad. The kale salad was soo good on top of the pizza and made the perfect meal to share!
We finished the night at the rooftop bar at the Journeyman, the Outsider. It is a hopping place! They have fire pits and cozy booths, along with outdoor games like cornhole. The bar is also amazing with a rustic, yet modern-industrial vibe! Photos don’t do the beautiful skyline justice! It is beautiful!
Sunday Funday
On Sunday, we took our time getting up and packing before heading out for the day. We walked around for a bit, grabbed some lunch at Shake Shack and then found a Starbucks before heading home. It was such a relaxing and fun weekend that was needed for the both of us!
If you’re ever visiting Milwaukee, we highly recommend the Historic Third Ward, especially the Kimpton Journeyman Hotel. If you’re not staying at the hotel, still check out the restaurant, Tre Rivali and/or the Outsider rooftop bar!
