My Current SPF Favs for Summer

July 14, 2020 Skin Care

With summer in full force, I wanted to talk about something that is very important to include in your daily skincare and/or makeup, especially if you’re outside often: SPF!!!! SPF if sooo important! I know I’ve mentioned this in the past, but I want to really emphasize it! If I could go back and tell myself one thing that would help my skin in the future, it would be to wear SPF. I was all about hopping in the tanning beds when I was younger and even worked in a tanning salon. It was so bad for my skin and I realize that now! I love being out in the sun and like a good glow, but I be sure to keep safe by applying sunscreen as needed. I wanted to round up some of my current SPF favs when it comes to skincare and makeup.

Looking for my Current Self Tanning Routine? Check out my post HERE!

What Is SPF & Why Is It Important?

SPF means “Sun Protection Factor and it measures how well a sunscreen protects you from UVB (the burning rays). When doing my research, I found that an SPF 50 sunscreen blocks about 98% of UVB rays. It may seem like SPF 100 would block a ton more, but it actually only blocks about 99% of UVB rays. Dermatologists recommend using sunscreen with at least an SPF 30, but anything higher than SPF 50 doesn’t do too much more. Sadly, you cannot block 100% of the suns rays while out in the sun.

My Current SPF Favs

Paula’s Choice Resist Youth-Extending Daily Hydrating Fluid SPF 50

I use this as part of my morning skincare routine. I usually mix it with my Isle of Paradise Tanning Drops to give my skin that sun kissed glow (without the sun). 😉 It’s lightweight, yet hydrating. Paula’s Choice has a ton of SPF options, but this is the only one I have tried.

TULA Protect & Glow SPF 30

This is another product you can use at the end of your skincare routine, but I have it next to my makeup so I make sure to put it on as a primer before starting my makeup. It’s also lightweight and gives your skin a little glow. Get 15% off with code ITSMEKELSIE on Tula’s website too!! They also carry it at ULTA, but I do not have a discount code for it.

Colore Science Total Eye™ 3-in-1 Renewal Therapy SPF 35

This stuff is amazing!! If I’m going outside or to the gym, sometimes I will just pop JUST this on under my eyes and go! It really brightens the under eye area and makes me look more awake and refreshed.

Moroccanoil Lip Balm SPF 20

This lip balm is not greasy and leaves your lips feeling hydrated and fresh, while still protecting you. Did you know your lips can’t tan, but they can burn??!  The skin on our lips is super thin, so wearing SPF on your lips helps protect them from both skin cancer and signs of aging. The constant sun exposure to your lips also breaks down the collagen and can result in thinner lips!

It Cosmetics CC+ Cream with SPF 50+

CC means Color Correction. This is a 3-in-1 product – it not only is a full coverage foundation, hydrating anti-aging serum, and mineral sunscreen. I typically use this when I’m out on the lake or outside all day.

I hope you found this post helpful in finding new SPF skincare and makeup! If you’re wanting me to share a post on the current sunscreens I use on my body, please let me know in the comments and I would be happy to share!

Tip: SPF on the face is not good for photos so if you are getting married, it is usually recommended to not wear anything with SPF in it if you don’t have to. If you’ll be out in the sun for your big day, ask your photographer.
