My coworker/friend sent me a free Blue Apron box, so I figured I would give it a shot! Â You still have to sign up with your card in order to get the free box, but you can cancel at any time, or even just skip weeks too. Â This is similar to other delivery services, such as Hello Fresh and Home Chef.
So, here’s the scoop. Â You get one box delivered each week with 3 meals in it. Â You can choose which package you would like, family or 2 person. Â I chose the 2 person package. Â You then pick which day you would like the meals to be delivered on, and also choose if you would like to omit certain proteins, or you can choose a vegetarian option. Â You can edit the meals you receive before they ship them, which is also a nice perk.
Each delivery for the 2 person package comes with 3 meals, with enough food for 2 people, large recipe cards, and all of the ingredients which are nicely portioned and labeled, including spices and oils needed in the recipe. Â The only thing you may need is salt and pepper and olive oil, which I always have on hand anyway. Â The meals are usually about 30-40 min cooking times with about 10 min of prep time involved.
What I liked best about the meals is being able to cook with my fiance and follow along on the recipe together. Â I give him a job to do while I start on another one. Â We typically cook together often, but the dishes we make from Blue Apron are a little more involved than what we normally cook at home, so I liked the extra time spent together in the kitchen.
Another thing I like is that the dishes aren’t typical dishes we would make at home, so it is nice to change things up every once in a while.
So, the price you may ask, $59.94 per week. Â This seems like a lot, but if you break it down per person, per meal, that works out to be $9.99 per meal per person. Â This is less than what you pay to go out to dinner, so I figured it is worth it once in a while.
One more great thing about Blue Apron is the packaging they use in their deliveries, almost everything is recyclable.  They have a foil liner and ice pack that I thought I just had to throw out each time and thought it was a big waste.  On their site, they tell you exactly how to dispose of everything in the boxes!  I am a huge recycler, so I love this!
Here is a list of the meals I have received so far:
Steak & Eggs with Kimchi Fried Rice –one of my favorites so far!!
Chicken Fried Chicken with Baked Sweet Potato & Collard Greens
Dukkah-Spiced Cod with Warm Beet, Carrot & Arugula Salad
BBQ-Spiced Salmon & Roasted Sweet Potato Rounds with Arugula, Apple & Walnut Salad
Fresh Fettuccine Pasta with Porcini Mushroom Bolognese
Asparagus & Arugula Pesto Pizza
I have a fairly picky Fiance and he loved every dish we made from Blue Apron! Â I was actually shocked that he liked them so much, especially when some of the meals had ingredients in it that I know he doesn’t like. Â I love having the option to skip weeks, so we will be doing 1-2 weeks a month, which should be just enough.
