Happy Tuesday friends!! I LOVE me a great pair of OTK (Over the Knee) Boots. Especially when you can still wear them in the later summer months and transition them right to fall. Today I wanted to share a few tips on finding the right pair of over the knee boots.
- Material is KEY
The material of the boot is going to make all the difference when it comes to the fit and the wear. Keep in mind if you wear jeans and leggings with them, it could stretch them out. You want a material that will keep it’s structure and be able to stretch a bit for pants and leggings without staying stretched out. As I always say, you get what you pay for so the higher price the boot, typically you get higher quality. This isn’t always true, but use your best judgement. I’ve found a few affordable ones that I’ll share at the end of this post. Another thing to keep in mind is if the boot has zippers or not. Zippers will help with getting the boots on and off easier. I have found that the boots that I have owned without zippers tend to stretch out much easier than those with zippers. - Find the Right Shaft Height
Do you like your otk boots higher up like thigh highs, do you like them to hit right above the knee? I personally love wearing them with a dress so a little higher above the knee is perfect. That way just a peek of skin shows. You want to find the best fit that is flattering on your body type and with what you’re wearing. I like to stay under a 2ft shaft height. If you’re more petite, you’ll want to stick around the shorter shaft height options. - Find the Right Heel Height
Are you looking for a little boost in height or are you tall and only want a low heel? These are both things to consider when shopping for your boots. Maybe you’re like me and want one of each? In addition to heel height, if you are wanting a taller heel, do you like a stiletto heel or more of a block heel? I like to be as comfortable as possible in cute over the knee boots so I opt for a block heel and keep my heel height about 3in. - How do they Fit?
You want your boots to be snug on your leg with and without pants on. The last thing you want is the top of the boot to be cutting into your leg, causing a “muffin top” look on your legs. I like to look for boots with an elastic or silicone band at the top that helps to boot stay up, but one that’s not too tight and cuts into your leg.
It’s all going to be trial and error to find your perfect boot, but once you find a good one, you’ll know what to look for in the future. The best pair of over the knee boots that I’ve found in the past couple of years is the pair from Goodnight Macaroon. They are currently 40% off for their pre-fall sale too. I would only recommend buying them on sale because they have sales so often. The only downside to having their sales often is that the 40% off sale doesn’t happen as often as the 20% or 30% off sale. The boots also sell out during the fall and winter season. If you’re wanting to get them, I would suggest getting them now while you can! I have all of the colors now and love them all! The website also suggests sizing up one.
I shared a try on haul with some other fall items from Goodnight Macaroon on my Instagram – saved under my highlights.

Another one of my favorite boots that are new to my closet are these below– I got them from the Nordstrom sale last month so I haven’t had a ton of time to break them in yet, but I can’t wait to wear them this fall. They are a little wider at the top, but that is the look. I will share an updated post once I break them in more!
