Happy Thursday friends! Last week Conor and I celebrated our 3rd wedding anniversary. With everything going on in the world, we would’ve loved to travel somewhere, but instead opted for a staycation near where we live. We have been going, going, going as of lately and needed a day to relax and slow down. We planned a stay at the Edgewater hotel in downtown Madison, WI. I have stayed there in years past and loved it so I knew it would be perfect for a mini getaway. I wanted to recap our stay and talk more about the hotel and spa for those that are interested in hotels in Madison.
The Edgewater Hotel
If you’re in the Madison and surrounding area, you may have heard of the Edgewater Hotel or maybe you’ve been there before. It’s located in downtown Madison, WI, just away from all the hustle and bustle of the busy downtown traffic. It’s located on the shores of Lake Mendota and is within walking distance to the Capital and State Street. The Edgewater was remodeled in 2014 with new additions including the restaurants, spa, and additional rooms. See old photos and learn more about the history of the hotel here. The Edgewater has over 200 rooms, several restaurants catered to every need, and an amazing spa.
Our Room with a View
The room we stayed in was a Premium Lakefront King. The room was stunning and the view was the best! The sunset over the water was breathtaking. The bathroom was huge and had a gorgeous lake view above the bathtub in there as well.
Takeout Dinner at the Statehouse
We ordered take out dinner from the Statehouse the evening we arrived at the hotel (on our anniversary). They had everything ready to go for us when we arrived, including a bottle opener for the wine and beer we ordered and we sat out on the terrace under the cafe lights and tent, just on the water. It was beautiful down there. One thing we found out is that you can actually go there, sit at a table and order right from the table. Instructions are right on the table too! Dine in is still an option, but we enjoyed sitting outside. The Statehouse always has great food and I’ve never had a bad experience there. The staff is wonderful, and so is Chef Juan.
The Edgewater Spa
Since it was our anniversary, I thought some spa time was necessary. Conor has never had a massage so I booked us a couples massage at the Edgwater Spa. The spa is absolutely beautiful and the views are stunning. The staff was all so welcoming and kind and the atmosphere was very calm and pleasant. Everything was very sanitary and we felt very comfortable inside the spa. Our couples massage was amazing. Conor said it made him feel 10 years younger! 😉 I always love a good massage. We enjoyed the relaxation pool afterwards, which is basically a huge hot tub and it was so relaxing!
Even if you’re not staying at the hotel, you can visit the spa. They have monthly package deals too, which can save you lots! Right now they have also extended their hours on Tuesday evenings and calling it “school night out”, specifically targeted to those parents who are working and/or homeschooling and need a night of relaxation and self-care. I love that they’re doing this!
I hope you found this post helpful for a future staycation or future stay when you’re in the Madison area! Feel free to leave any questions in the comments below! Have a great rest of the week!
